Pastor Larry was born March 3, 1934, in Newbern, Alabama, daughter of the late Isom and Rosa Rhodes. She matriculated through the Hale County Public School System. Pastor Larry was an extraordinary woman and the epitome of class. She was not only a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and Pastor. Idella Larry was a trailblazer in the African American community. She went from tilling soil to saving souls. Her loving personality was infectious, and she never missed an opportunity to show love to anyone. Pastor Larry had the opportunity to share that love with the Late William Larry Sr., affectionally known as “Overseer”. They grew up in the small town of Newbern, AL where they became high school sweethearts. In February of 1966, they lovingly united as one and raised 13 children. Pastor Larry was a multifaceted individual and held various roles throughout her lifetime. She worked at Marshall Durbin in Jasper, AL, was also a licensed cosmetologist and caregiver to many.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree of Religious Education in May of 1978 from Easonian Baptist Seminary; was licensed as a minster in 1985 under the leadership of Prince F.J. Johnston. Her most important role on this earth and purposed assignment was to fulfill the work of the Lord. After hearing the voice of God
saying “I’ve placed you as a watchman on the wall, I’ve placed you there for many; go forth and make me known.” In early 1984 Pastor Larry answered the call and founded True Love Deliverance Church. She built the foundation of the church in her home and soon moved to a Brick and Mortar several years later. Pastor Larry served as Senior Pastor of True Love Deliverance Church faithfully for 37 years. She transitioned to eternal life peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
